Saturday, May 15, 2010 - At 0050 hours on todays date, the PVFD along with CCDES P1 were alerted for a MVC reported with rescue and auto fire in the 1700 block of Rt. 7. On arrival of Chief 6 (Ryan) and AC6-2 (Barr) it was confirmed engine compartment involved and rescue. Chief 6 established command while AC6-2 and LT6-4 (Huffstutler) went to work with fire extinguishers to keep the fire out of the passenger compartment and off the patients. On arrival of R6 the crew pulled its bumper line to extinguish the fire. E613 was next to arrive along with A691 and P1. E613 assisted with extinguishment and pulling rescue tools. Once the fire had been extinguished and the passenger door removed it was discovered the patients were heavily trapped. RE614 was next to arrive and was instructed to place its hydraulic tools in service also. With a prolonged extrication time an engine transfer and an engine was requested to the scene for additional manpower. With all rescue tools in service and 3 crews working the patient was finally extricated at 0153 hours. The Go Team was then placed in service. Despite the tireless effort and extensive amount of work done to free the patients, both had succumbed to their injuries. R6 remained on scene till approximately 0600 hours providing lighting for MSP’s reconstruction and Collette’s to remove the vehicle.
